What Is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain. It occurs when the plantar fascia, a thick band of connective tissue running along the bottom of the foot, becomes irritated or overloaded. This tissue helps support the arch of the foot and absorbs the forces created while walking, running, and standing.

When repeated stress exceeds the tissue's ability to recover, inflammation and degeneration may develop, leading to pain that often makes even simple daily activities uncomfortable.

Although plantar fasciitis can affect anyone, it is especially common among runners, healthcare workers, teachers, retail employees, athletes, and individuals who spend long hours standing or walking.

Without proper treatment, symptoms may persist for months or even longer, which is why early evaluation and an individualized treatment plan are important.

Common Symptoms

Patients with plantar fasciitis often experience:

  • Sharp pain near the bottom of the heel.

  • Pain that's worse with the first few steps in the morning.

  • Pain after sitting for extended periods.

  • Heel discomfort after exercise.

  • Tenderness along the arch of the foot.

  • Tightness in the calf or Achilles tendon.

  • Pain that gradually worsens throughout the day.

Every patient experiences symptoms differently, which is why Dr. Boley performs a thorough evaluation before recommending treatment.

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

Several factors may contribute to plantar fasciitis, including:

  • Overuse from running or sports.

  • Standing for long periods.

  • Tight calf muscles.

  • Limited ankle mobility.

  • Flat feet or high arches.

  • Improper footwear.

  • Sudden increases in activity.

  • Excess stress placed on the plantar fascia over time.

Many patients have more than one contributing factor, making a personalized treatment plan essential.

How StemWave Therapy May Help

StemWave Therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic wave technology to stimulate the body's natural healing response. Depending on the individual's condition and overall health, this therapy may help improve circulation, encourage tissue repair, and reduce pain associated with certain musculoskeletal conditions.

For patients with plantar fasciitis, StemWave may be considered as part of a comprehensive treatment plan designed to support recovery and improve function.

Because every patient is different, Dr. Boley performs a complete evaluation before determining whether StemWave is an appropriate option.
