Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) in Roseville, CA

At Johnson Ranch Chiropractic, Dr. Charles Boley II, DC, uses Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) exercises to help patients practice breathing, stability, and movement control.

Your exercises are selected around what you want to do more comfortably, whether that’s lifting at work, getting back to the gym, or staying active in your sport.

What Is Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization?

DNS_ANRGB.jpg

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, or DNS, is an approach to exercise that focuses on how you breathe, support your body, and control movement. It draws on developmental movement patterns, such as rolling, reaching, and supporting your weight on your hands and knees.

In practice, you might start by lying on your back with your legs supported while you work on breathing and keeping your trunk steady. As the movement becomes easier to control, Dr. Boley may progress the exercise to include reaching, shifting your weight, or practicing in a more upright position.

When Might DNS Exercises Be Part of Your Care?

Dr. Boley may recommend DNS exercises if your evaluation identifies movement or stability limitations that are relevant to your goals. You might be working toward:

  • Lifting, bending, or reaching with more control.

  • Returning to exercise after an injury or a period away from training.

  • Building control through your trunk and hips for a sport or gym activity.

  • Practicing movements that feel difficult or uncomfortable in daily life.

Your symptoms, health history, and examination help determine which exercises are appropriate and where to start.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Talk through what’s difficult. Dr. Boley asks about your symptoms, previous injuries, and the activities you want to get back to.

Look at how you move. Depending on your concerns, he may observe how you breathe and control your body during tasks such as reaching, bending, or shifting your weight.

Practice an exercise together. If DNS fits your plan, Dr. Boley guides you through a starting position, shows you what to focus on, and adjusts the exercise based on how it feels and how well you can control it.

Review what to work on between visits. When appropriate, you’ll get exercises to practice at home. Follow-up visits can help determine when to adjust the exercise or progress it toward your activity goals.
